Biovalley has several mining projects (lithium) and Keliber's lithium refinery will be located in Kokkola.

Sibanye-Stillwater’s Keliber lithium project has an objective of producing battery-grade lithium hydroxide especially for the needs of the international lithium-ion battery market.
The deposits and the future five mining sites of the Keliber lithium project are situated across three municipalities, namely Kaustinen, Kokkola and Kronoby. The concentrator included in the project will be built in the Päiväneva area on the border of the municipalities of Kaustinen and Kronoby. The Keliber lithium refinery, where the spodumene concentrate is further processed into lithium hydroxide, will be located in the Kokkola Industrial Park (KIP) area.
